ATC-TK • Auto transformer fan speed controllers with thermal contacts

  • Auto transformer fan speed controller
  • 230 Volts, 1 phase, 50Hz
  • Max. 12 Amps

Auto transformer fan speed controllers with thermal contacts

Application

For use with single phase voltage controllable fans. Auto transformer speed controllers regulate the voltage output whilst maintaining a true sine wave. The great advantage of this type of control is the low motor noise (humming) and almost no EMC emission problems.

Composition

  • Single phase models housed in ventilated grey plastic enclosures
  • 5 speed settings via rotary switch
  • Reset button and Thermal overload fitted
  • Suitable for 2 or 3 wire control

Installation
Check that the speed controller supplied is compatible with the fan motor.
Install in a dry sheltered position. Do not install in close proximity to a heat source. Allow 150mm of free space around the controllers ventilation grilles for airflow.

All wiring must be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person and comply with current applicable regulations.

Notes

Connections from controller to fan motor
U1: Controlled (variable) live out to fan motor
U2: Neutral out to fan motor
AUX: Maintained live (230v) to fan motor capacitor

IF IN DOUBT WHETHER FAN MOTOR IS TO BE WIRED FOR 2 OR 3 WIRE CONTROL CONSULT FAN MANUFACTURER

If fan motor is 2 wire control omit connection between AUX and fan motor capacitor
if in doubt seek fan manufacturers advice

Operation

Operation
For fan motors fitted with thermal contacts (TK): wiring diagram 1
When the electrical supply is connected to the fan speed controller the POWER lamp will illuminate. If the circuit breaker within the fan speed controller has tripped (press to reset) the POWER lamp will not illuminate.

Select the desired fan speed using the 6 position (Off & 5 speeds, 1=minimum, 5=maximum) rotary switch. The TRIP lamp will illuminate.

Press the START switch. The TRIP lamp will go out and the fan will start at the selected speed.
If the fan motor overheats and the thermal contacts (wired back to TK connections) open circuit then the controller will trip I.E the fan will stop and the TRIP lamp will illuminate.

The cause of the tripping should be investigated prior to re-starting the fan. The fan can be re-started (once the thermal contacts reset) by pressing the START switch.

For fan motors without thermal contacts (TK): wiring diagram 2
When using fan motors without thermal contacts ensure the connections TK in the fan speed controller are linked together.
